( Hurghada )

Hidden amid the arid Red Sea Hills, far from the hustle and bustle of the cities, lie Egypt's two oldest Coptic monasteries – St Paul's and St Anthony's.

It is the largest monastic complex in Egypt, with numerous churches and chapels, and a large wing for housing, which however today houses about 80 monks.

-Pick up from your hotel in the early morning and drive on the surfaced road to the monastery located in the eastern desert mountains of Egypt near the Red Sea. The Cave Church of St. Paul marks the spot where St. Anthony, ""the Father of Monasticism,"" and St. Paul, ""the First Hermit,"" are believed to have met.

It is a sacred place representing the very beginning of Christian monasticism. The monastery is widely celebrated as one of the oldest Christian monasteries in Egypt and it is a precious inheritance for the Coptic faithful, who identify the Cave Church of St. Paul as the saint`s hermitage and the place where St. Anthony buried him. Lunch en-route. Drive back to Hurghada in the late afternoon.

  •         Passport, comfortable clothes, comfortable shoes, and camera are recommended.
  • Saturday (change could happen during the fasten of the Coptic Christians fasten due to the monasteries schedule)
